SUCCESS IN BATTLE WITH CANCER
|
When I learned that I had cancer, my first thoughts were that I
might die shortly, and that my wife, family and close friends would
be in for a difficult time.
Of course I wanted to beat the disease, so my knee jerk reaction
was that I had to find a doctor who could successfully treat me. After considerable thought, I came to realize that it was MY RESPONSIBILITY to save my life. It was MY RESPONSIBILITY to obtain guidance and treatment from a skilled doctor, MY RESPONSIBILITY to learn everything a layman could about the disease, MY RESPONSIBILITY to do everything possible to beat this potentially life threatening disease. The results were excellent, not merely in the fact that I survived, but in the way we all managed to get through the ordeal. I felt then, as I do now, that my experience could help other people who might be fighting cancer, or any other serious disease. It is my desire to present my experience to others in the hope that they will either use it as a model or blueprint for their fight against cancer, or encourage them to develop their own plan for fighting and winning their battle against any serious disease. I verbally shared my experience with a number of people in similar difficulty, and then decided to write the story to make it more readily available to others. After I had written the story I came to realize that this is much more than a "how to" treatise --- it is the story of a family --- a successful executive, his health-activist wife, married professional daughters, arrival of the first grandchild; a beautiful growing family suddenly coping with a serious disease, cancer. The story contains drama, humor and a close-up look at the cancer treatment process. |
